KI SPONSORS HEALTHCARE DESIGN SEMINARS AT NEOCON 2010

CHICAGO – The latest trends, techniques and issues in healthcare design will be shared in a series of CEU-accredited seminars at NeoCon. Sponsored by KI, the sessions will cover topics such as Design for Infection Prevention, Evidence-Based Healthcare Design and Designing Beyond Healthcare Design. Feature presenters include Dr. Debra Harris, Ph.D. and Faculty Fellow of the Center for Health Systems & Design (CHSD), Texas A&M University, Rosalyn Cama, FASID, EDAC, Jamie Millican, Associate AIA and more. “Healthcare represents one of the most dynamic and evolving markets for A&D professionals, making seminars like these vitally important,” said Shawn Green, vice president, product management, KI. “We’re sponsoring this series and other seminars around the country as part of our commitment to providing healthcare designers and facilities managers all the information they need to create spaces that meet the needs of patients, families and staff.” Dr. Harris’ presentation at NeoCon, titled Environmental Design for Infection Prevention, takes place on June 14th from 1:00 pm. – 2:00 p.m. in the Merchandise Mart, 8th floor, Room 8-2010. Attendees of Dr. Harris’ seminar will review the common pathogens that spread infection in hospital environments and discuss strategies for designing to prevent infections. Dr. Harris’ session will bring guests quickly up to speed on hospital-acquired infections (HAI) and their implications from costs to impact on visitors. Visitors will leave with an understanding of the role of design in environmental health, as well as specific strategies and applications to make the best choices for the prevention of infection in future design projects. In addition to Dr. Harris’ presentation, KI will sponsor similar events with Dr. Harris in the coming months. Dr. Harris holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from Texas A&M University, with a focus area in health systems planning. With more than 25 years of practice, Dr. Harris brings a seasoned background to healthcare architecture and design. She is the President and Research Director of RAD Consultants, focusing on evidence-based strategic planning, programming, design and research. Dr. Harris’ has years of extensive academic experience, most recently as Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. Dr. Harris has been published in numerous publications. Her most recent publications include “A Practitioner’s Guide to Evidence-Based Design” and “Detecting potential Pathogens on hospital Surfaces: An Assessment of carpet tile flooring in the hospital patient environment.” Dr. Harris’ second addition of Design Details for Health will be available 4th Quarter.
